The Horse Who Could Run on the Surface of the Sea

~2 min readFree

Once upon a time, in a kingdom nestled between towering mountains and the endless azure sea, there lived a magnificent horse named Aquarius. Unlike any horse ever seen, Aquarius possessed a coat that shimmered like moonlight on water, and his mane flowed like cascading waves of silver and blue.

Aquarius belonged to a young fisherman named Elias, who had rescued the horse from a storm-wracked shore when he was just a foal. They lived in a humble cottage at the edge of the village, where the cobblestone streets met the sandy beach. Every morning, Elias would ride Aquarius along the shoreline, their bond growing stronger with each passing day.

One fateful evening, as a terrible storm approached the kingdom, Elias stood watching the turbulent waters with worry in his heart. The fishing boats were still out at sea, and the waves grew more violent with each passing moment. "If only I could reach them in time," Elias whispered to Aquarius, "to guide them back to shore before the storm breaks."

Aquarius nuzzled his master gently, then stepped toward the churning waves. As his hoof touched the water, something miraculous happened. Instead of sinking, his hoof remained on the surface, creating ripples that glowed with ethereal light. Aquarius neighed confidently and stepped forward again, his entire body now hovering above the waves as if walking on solid ground.

Elias gasped in wonder as he realized the gift his beloved companion possessed. Without hesitation, he mounted Aquarius, and together they galloped onto the sea. The horse's hooves barely touched the water's surface, yet they ran with incredible speed and grace, leaving trails of sparkling foam in their wake.

Through the darkness of the approaching storm, Aquarius carried Elias to the struggling fishermen. His glowing coat illuminated the treacherous waters, guiding the boats safely toward the harbor. The wind howled and lightning cracked across the sky, but Aquarius remained steady, his magical power undiminished by the chaos around them.

When the last boat reached the safety of the harbor, the villagers cheered for Elias and his extraordinary horse. Word of Aquarius's gift spread throughout the kingdom, reaching even the ears of the king himself. The monarch summoned Elias and Aquarius to the royal palace, where he offered great riches in exchange for the horse's service.

But Elias gently declined. "Aquarius is not a tool to be used, but a friend who chooses when to share his gift," he explained wisely.

From that day forward, Aquarius became the guardian of the coastal kingdom. Whenever storms threatened or ships found themselves lost at sea, the magical horse would appear, running across the waves to guide them home. Children would gather at the shoreline to watch him dance upon the water, his hooves creating patterns of light that seemed to tell ancient stories of the sea.

And so, the legend of the horse who could run on the surface of the sea lived on through generations, reminding all that magic exists where love and courage unite, and that the greatest gifts are those shared freely from the heart.
