# The Volcano That Erupted with Colorful Sand

Once upon a time, in a valley nestled between whispering mountains and silver streams, there stood a peculiar volcano known as Mount Chroma. Unlike any other volcano in the world, Mount Chroma did not spew fire or ash or molten rock. Instead, it erupted with the most magnificent colorful sand imaginable.

Long ago, before the first kingdom was built, a weary traveler named Elara discovered the dormant volcano. She was a painter who had journeyed across seven seas searching for the perfect pigments for her art. When she climbed Mount Chroma's slopes, she found a hidden cave filled with crystals that shimmered with every color known to humankind, and many that had no names.

"These colors are too precious for just one canvas," Elara whispered to herself. "They belong to everyone."

With a generous heart, she mixed the crystals with volcanic stone and cast them into the volcano's depths. As the last crystal fell, the mountain rumbled with joy. From that day forward, Mount Chroma would awaken every spring to shower the valley below with brilliant sands of crimson, sapphire, emerald, gold, and violet.

The villagers who lived in the shadow of Mount Chroma soon discovered that the colorful sand held magical properties. When children played in the red sand, they grew brave and strong. The blue sand brought wisdom to those who sought knowledge. Green sand healed the sick and mended broken bones. Golden sand filled hearts with joy and laughter, while violet sand granted vivid dreams and creative inspiration.

Each year, the Festival of Colors celebrated the eruption. Families gathered with baskets and buckets to collect the falling sand, sharing generously with neighbors and strangers alike. The village became known far and wide as a place of healing, learning, and happiness. People traveled from distant lands, and the villagers never turned anyone away, giving freely of their magical treasure.

But not everyone rejoiced at Mount Chroma's gift. A greedy merchant named Corvus heard tales of the colorful sand and saw only profit. One moonless night, he crept up the mountain with sacks and shovels, planning to steal all the sand for himself.

"I'll sell this to the highest bidder," Corvus cackled. "Kings will pay fortunes for such magic!"

As he dug into the volcano's rim, the mountain grew silent. The next spring, no colorful sand erupted. The villagers waited and waited, but Mount Chroma remained quiet and still. Sadness fell over the valley like a gray blanket.

Meanwhile, Corvus discovered his stolen sand had lost all its magic. It was just ordinary colored dust, worthless and dull. Desperate and ashamed, he returned to the village and confessed his theft to the eldest villager, a wise woman named Mira.

"The sand's magic comes from sharing, not hoarding," Mira explained gently. "Mount Chroma knows the difference between a generous heart and a greedy one."

Corvus, filled with remorse, helped the villagers create a great mosaic in the town square using his now-ordinary sand. As the last piece was placed, Mount Chroma rumbled once more. A small eruption of pink sand sparkled in the sunlight, landing softly on Corvus's upturned face.

Tears streamed down his cheeks as he finally understood. From that day forward, he became the valley's greatest protector, ensuring the colorful sand was shared with all who needed it. And Mount Chroma continued its yearly eruptions, reminding everyone that true magic flows from open hands and open hearts.
